Karen Schreiber is a freelance photographer based in Palo Alto, California. She specializes in both fine art and documentary photography. Karen’s education includes a BS in Biology from Eckerd College and a Masters in Nursing with a Certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Pace University.

Karen began by photographing her own children. A more serious interest developed later at a photography workshop in Yosemite with Richard Seiling. Jason Francisco introduced her to the history of documentary photography. Her practice of documentary photography was fine tuned by Michelle Vignes.

Karen uses a Leica rangefinder to quietly, almost unnoticed, photograph in available light. She is skilled at meeting people, putting them at ease, and quickly gaining rapport. This results in photographs that capture the essence of her subject.

Karen’s documentary projects involve all areas of life. She says “My challenge has been to photograph locally and to document subjects that are both interesting and meaningful to me as well as others.”
